A Win for Clean Water

Midwest Environmental Advocates and Clean Water Wisconsin teamed up with Wisconsin Farmer’s Union to fight an egregious lawsuit and protect one of Wisconsin’s most precious resources….clean water. The lawsuit was filed by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and Wisconsin Dairy Alliance on behalf of factory farms called CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations). The lawsuit questioned the authority of the DNR in the permitting process. However, a Circuit Court Judge in Calumet County rejected the lawsuit’s argument and affirmed the authority of the Wisconsin DNR. This is a big win for clean water! CAFO’s in Wisconsin are a large contributer to water (surface and ground) pollution which reaches our beloyed lakes and rivers. Read more about it below.
